The Spanish Congress of Shopping Centers and Commercial Parks, the most important event in the industry, has been awarded the AIS certification in its XXI edition. It is, in fact, the fourth consecutive edition that obtains this recognition. On this occasion, the AIS 1/2023 Standard has been applied in its Events and Congresses modality, within the structural limitations of the physical space in which the meeting is held, and with a certificate whose validity coincides with the duration of the Congress.

To achieve a people-centered meeting that meets criteria of usability, safety, accessibility and inclusion, the AECC, organizer of the event, has worked from the design phase and incorporated improvements aimed at ensuring the highest possible degree of autonomy for visitors and exhibitors.

These include accessible routes, accessible signage, magnetic induction loops and haptic maps. In addition, an accessible service point, sign language interpreter, alternative systems in some documents through QR codes and Navilens, as well as accessible evacuation chairs have been implemented.

The process has been completed with the supervision of AIS Approved Technicians, who have reviewed the implementations a few hours before the opening and have raised their conclusions to the ARS Foundation Review Committee, an entity that has approved the issuance of the certificate on the same day of the opening of the event. All this reinforces the commitment of the sector not only in its physical spaces, but also in the discussion forums that mark its future.

AIS in the Retail sector

AECC’s commitment to accessibility and AIS is a reflection of the sector’s commitment. Many shopping centers in Spain are already certified, with Retail being the sector with the highest number of 5 AIS Stars, the highest level of accessibility of the AIS certificate. Companies such as Neinver, Sonae Sierra, Ingka, Castellana Properties, Ceetrus, Merlin Properties… already have AIS certified spaces.
