The AIS 1/2023 Standard has already been transposed into the mandatory accessibility legislation of 36 countries, providing assurance to beneficiary entities as to the degree of legal compliance in each destination country.

These countries are Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, United Kingdom, United States, and Uruguay.

What is a transposition?

AIS 1/2023 has two internationalization formulas: harmonization and transposition.

The international harmonization process is based on the premise that human needs are identical anywhere in the world. For this reason, the AIS 1/2023 INT Standard was created, which incorporates accessibility criteria with an international vision, ensuring the highest standards of excellence. AIS International facilitates decision making and scalability in international portfolios, providing homogeneous criteria and grades throughout the world.

On the other hand, transposition involves crossing the requirements of AIS 1 INT with the national regulations of each destination country. It incorporates submodalities to adapt the standard to the dates of entry into force of the accessibility legislation applicable to the geographical area. The transposition provides relevant information on the legal compliance in terms of accessibility of the evaluated object.

What does it mean to opt for a transposition?

Certificates based on the AIS 1/2023 Standard are issued by default with the international standard and only upon specific request of the beneficiary entity is the double certification issued with the transposition applicable to that country.

The double certification, with the international standard and with the transposition, is recognized by a specific plate that includes the grading based on the two standards.

Although AIS currently has 36 transpositions, the ARS Foundation’s R&D team is constantly researching legislation and social needs.
