Ágora Bienestar, whose celebration coincided with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, obtained the AIS certificate of accessibility as part of its commitment to inclusion.
AIS assesses the accessibility conditions of goods, services and products with a holistic view that includes physical, sensory and cognitive aspects. Specifically, the AIS 1/2023 Standard, which applies to built-up areas, has a specific category for Events and Congresses that has some particularities, such as its validity, which is limited to the duration of the event.
The aim of the Ágora Bienestar organisers in certifying this event was to ensure that participants could access and move around the event, enjoy the talks and materials and participate in all the activities with the greatest possible degree of autonomy, taking into account the structural characteristics of the space in which the congress is held and the ephemeral nature of the certificate.
Accessibility at events
Among the measures that were verified in Ágora Bienestar, we can highlight an accessible point of attention with a magnetic induction loop, the presence of a sign language interpreter, QR code in the programme, preferential area for people with disabilities in the catering, accessible signage…
‘Agora Bienestar demonstrates its commitment to people by certifying the event,’ explained Esther Bienes Pinedo, director of Fundación ARS. ‘The AIS certificate puts into practice two words that make great sense, but are sometimes difficult to put into practice: diversity and inclusion. AIS makes them happen,’ she added.
