2024 closed with a total of 3,756 AIS certificates issued since 2013, which represented an annual growth rate of 15%, in line with the sustained increase in the issuance of AIS certificates in recent years.

Among the system’s protocols, Prequalification (which applies to projects) is the one that grew the most, with a rate of 11%. In 2024, the new Certification with Pre-assessment will be introduced, which is expected to increase in the coming years and involves the initial assessment of the spaces, a period of six to nine months to make changes in the verified environment and the subsequent issuance of the certificate.

In terms of stars, grade 3 continues to be the most frequent, with 37% of the certificates, followed by two stars with 27% and five stars with 19%.

International presence of the AIS certificate

Although the majority of certificates are issued in Spain (92%), the fact is that the number of certificates in other countries is increasing every year, with the rest of Europe and Asia being the geographical areas with the greatest presence of AIS. Specifically, in 2024, certificates were issued for the first time in Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia.

In terms of sectors, the healthcare sector is the one that is most committed to AIS, accounting for 49% of the certificates issued since 2013, followed by Retail (23%). However, it is Industry/Logistics that has registered the highest annual growth rate in 2024, followed by Events and Congresses.

Offices, on the other hand, which include both public and private spaces, was the sector in which the largest number of certificates were issued in 2024, since 46% of all emissions corresponded to this use. In addition, it is the sector that makes most use of the Pre-assessment Certification protocol.
