The AIS 1/2023 Standard incorporates requirements for analysing the lactation room. Specifically, a total of 67 specific indicators have been included for the verification of its accessibility conditions. Among the areas analysed by the AIS certificate are the furniture, the passageway, signage, flooring, ventilation, consumables, lighting… with a comprehensive perspective of the space. Although the installation of a lactation room is not compulsory to obtain the AIS certificate, if it exists, it must comply with the accessibility conditions required by the AIS 1/2023 Standard, which are between 3 and 5 stars. A special feature of the nursing room requirements is that the AIS standard increases the requirement for the width of the doorway compared to the doors of adapted toilets, taking into account the possibility of use by twin pushchairs, the dimensions of which are larger. The lactation rooms have been included in the functional area that AIS calls Accessible Services, which also includes toilets for ostomates, changing rooms and changing rooms, among others.
