The Healthy Cities Madrid solidarity walk, held on April 26 in Casa de Campo, has obtained the AIS accessibility certificate, as part of Sanitas ‘ commitment to people and inclusion.
On this occasion, the AIS 1/2023 Standard was applied in its Events and Congresses modality, and the result of the evaluation was ‘Basic’ due to the limitations of the protected natural area in which the meeting takes place, where no actions or adaptations are allowed.

Precisely for this reason, the organization has opted for the presence of 35 volunteers who will act as human facilitators during the Healthy Cities Madrid tour, after receiving training on the particularities of the space.
“This project had complicated requirements. It was developed in a protected natural space so few interventions could be made,” explained Ignacio Lucini Carnicero, Director of Institutional Relations at Fundación ARS, creator and manager of the AIS certificate. “However, it is important to advance in accessible sporting events by encouraging the greatest degree of autonomy possible within the limitations of the spaces and activities to be developed,” he added.

What is AIS and what does it evaluate?
The AIS accessibility certificate takes into account criteria of functional diversity, both physical, sensory and cognitive, with the aim that anyone, whatever their condition, can access, enjoy and move around events and congresses comfortably and safely.
However, AIS not only verifies public events, but the system can also evaluate buildings, projects, websites, apps, services… So far, more than 3,700 certificates have been issued in 30 countries in its three accessibility standards.
